Morella the Old

About 6 km from Morella are the cave paintings of Morella la Vella, a collection of prehistoric art declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. These paintings, discovered in 1917, show hunting scenes and battles between tribes, with human figures and animals such as goats and deer.

The paintings are made with a red pigment mixed with stone dust and animal fat. Although they are smaller than those in the nearby Barranco de la Valltorta, they stand out for their realism: warriors with bows and arrows can be seen, as well as footprints that seem to indicate persecutions.
