Portal del Pont and Portal del Castell
Ancient gates of the walled city. The Portal del Pont, next to the twelve-arched bridge, dates from 1805, and the Portal del Castell was the entrance used by lords upon arriving in the city. Both retain historic towers and medieval charm.
Plaza Mayor and Plaza de Sant Joan
The Plaza Mayor, with its arcades, is the heart of the town and the setting for festivals and markets. The Plaza de Sant Joan features a 15th-century fountain, a chapel dedicated to San Juan, and a plaque with the poem Record de Solsona.
Castellvell de Olius
Just a 10-minute drive from the center, this 13th-century castle preserves walls, towers, and the Gothic Church of the Virgen del Remei. It offers spectacular views of Solsona and the valley, perfect at sunset.

Solsona Cathedral
The Cathedral of Santa Maria de Solsona is the city's most important monument and the seat of the bishopric. It stands next to the Portal del Pont and forms a historic ensemble with the Episcopal Palace. Built between the 12th and 18th centuries, it blends several architectural styles: Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque, and Neoclassical.
Its origins lie in a Romanesque church dating back to 1163, of which parts such as the apses, the bell tower, and an old Romanesque doorway are still preserved. Construction of the current cathedral began in 1299, and it features a large, simple, and austere Gothic nave.
Inside the Solsona Cathedral, the Chapel of the Virgen del Claustro stands out, housing the 12th-century Romanesque image of the patron saint of Solsona, one of the most important sculptures of Catalan Romanesque art. The Chapel of la Mercè, with a Baroque altarpiece, is also noteworthy.
Next to the cathedral is the Episcopal Palace, which houses the Diocesan and Regional Museum, with Romanesque and Gothic works of art. It is a key place to learn about the history and culture of Solsona.
Solsona town
Solsona is the capital of the Solsonès region and one of the most unique towns in inland Catalonia. With around 10,000 inhabitants, it combines the tranquility of a small town with a rich history, culture, and vibrant local festivals. The region is known as the "land of a thousand farmhouses" and is renowned for its natural landscapes, authenticity, and lack of overcrowding, making it ideal for a peaceful getaway.
Solsona's old town is one of its greatest attractions. Strolling through its well-preserved medieval streets is like stepping back in time. Squares, ancient gateways, stately homes, and the cathedral define the life of the town. Furthermore, Solsona boasts the most popular festivals throughout the year of any Catalan town, such as Carnival, Corpus Christi, and the Festa Major, featuring giants and unique traditional figures.
Solsona is also surrounded by nature. From here, you can visit places such as the Valle de Lord, the Llosa del Cavall Reservoir, or the Santuario de Pinós, where the geographic center of Catalonia is located. That’s why it’s a perfect destination for couples, families, friends, and lovers of nature and culture.
